Legal Aid Society of Rockland County Inc. ("LASRC," "we," "us") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal services provider. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it, including information related to our text message (SMS) program.

  • Information you give us. When you apply for or receive services, we collect information such as your name, address, phone number, email address, and details about your legal matter.
  • Mobile phone number and SMS consent. If you agree to receive text messages, we collect your mobile phone number, the date you consented, and your signed consent form.
  • Text message content. We keep the text messages we send to you and the replies you send to us as part of your client file.
  • Website information. Our website does not collect personal information from visitors.

How we use your information

  • To provide legal services and communicate with you about your legal matter.
  • To send text messages you have agreed to receive, such as case updates, appointment and court date reminders, and requests for documents.
  • To respond to your questions and requests.
  • To meet our legal, ethical, and funding-related reporting obligations.

SMS opt-in data

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We share your mobile number only with the service providers who deliver our text messages, and only for that purpose.

How we protect your information

Client information is kept confidential under the rules of professional conduct that govern lawyers. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect it. Text messages are not a secure form of communication, so please do not text sensitive information such as Social Security numbers or account numbers.
